Morning Session: "Pediatric Sleep Disorders: Etiology, Management, and Multidisciplinary Approach"
Dr. Jacy Stauffer
Dr. Jacy Stauffer is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. After graduating from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, she went on to pursue a General Practice Residency at Rhode Island Hospital, focusing on adults and children with special health care needs. Following the completion of her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn NY, she worked in a private group practice setting for a few years before embarking on full-time academia. She spent 10 years as an Attending with NYU-Langone's 'Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the Maryland and California sites.
Dr. Stauffer currently serves as the Program Director for the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). She enjoys treating the medically complex patient population, while also serving as a mentor for resident research and contributing to various projects surrounding pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. Her firm belief in real-time collaboration between physicians and dentists also led her to initiate the pediatric multidisciplinary sleep clinic at OHSU where she continues to share her expertise and even developed a clinical rotation for her residents. Dr. Stauffer's position on the ABPD Oral Clinical Examination Committee allows her to fulfill her passion of lifelong learning by participating as both an examiner and writer for the board exam.

Dr. Huang attended dental school at the University of Florida and then received his certificate in Orthodontics and MSD from the University of Washington. He also holds an MPH in epidemiology from UW. Dr. Huang has helped train more than 130 orthodontic graduate students at the UW over the past 25 years. Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at UW, as well as the Associate Dean for Faculty. He is a proponent of evidence-based orthodontics and is heavily involved in clinical research.

Dr. Bob Haeger (Orthodontist)
Dr. Haeger's background includes growing up in rural Michigan, attending the University of Michigan for undergrad and dental school, and finishing up his education at the University of Illinois at Chicago for Orthodontics. Upon graduation, Dr. Haeger drove across the country and opened his orthodontic practice from scratch. During the early years, Dr. Haeger worked as a temporary hygienist and practiced general dentistry for five years while growing his orthodontic practice. Over his 34 years in private practice, Dr. Haeger has participated in numerous inter-disciplinary study clubs, lectured at three orthodontic programs, ran statistical analysis on 125 practices in a national study club, published over 15 articles in various journals, is a contributing editor for the JCO, lectured at many orthodontic meetings, and presented findings to many orthodontic companies. Dr. Haeger works very closely with many interdisciplinary teams and has a reputation for handling the most challenging cases. In his free time, you will likely find Dr. Haeger and his family on some river fly fishing.
Dr. Avina Paranjape (Endodontics)
Dr. Avina Paranjpe graduated with her BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) degree from the Mumbai University, India in 2000. She was in private practice in Mumbai, India from 2000-2002 after which she obtained her Master's degree (MS) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Oral Biology, Immunology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2004 and 2007 respectively. Dr. Paranjpe earned her Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) and Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Washington Graduate Endodontics Program in August 2009 after which she joined the faculty at the University of Washington, School of Dentistry as Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Professor with tenure in 2020 and is the current Program Director in Endodontics at the school. She was recently inducted as a Fellow to the International College of Dentists (FICD): Awarded for outstanding contribution to the profession and community and research.
She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and the current ABE President. Dr. Paranjpe is involved in several ongoing research projects related to dental materials and regenerative Endodontics. She has numerous publications in the area of pulpal regeneration and revascularization, immunology, compatibility of biomaterials. She has won multiple teaching awards including:
- 1. Bruce Rothwell Distinguished Teaching award 2018- University of Washington: Awarded for teaching by the School of Dentistry.
- 2. Edward M. Osetek Educator Award 2019: Recognized for outstanding status as an educator in North America by the American Association of Endodontists.
Dr. Travis Nelson (Pediatric Dentistry)
Dr. Travis Nelson is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington, and he maintains privileges at Seattle Children's Hospital. Dr. Nelson received his DDS from Loma Linda University and subsequently completed a residency in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Washington. He is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has authored numerous published articles and has lectured nationally and internationally on a variety of topics. His clinical and research interests include providing dental care for children with special needs, pediatric restorative dentistry, and procedural sedation.
Dr. Van Ramos (Prosthodontics)
Dr. Ramos is a Teaching Professor and the Director of Graduate Prosthodontics at the University of Washington. He recently retired after 30 years of active-duty service from the United States Army Dental Corps where he was the Prosthodontic Residency Program Director and the Prosthodontic Consultant to the Surgeon General of the Army. Dr. Ramos received his D.D.S. from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston in 1985 and his certificate in the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1994. He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow in the American College of Prosthodontists. Dr. Ramos lectures nationally and internationally on esthetics and implant dentistry.
